When the 89th annual Academy Award nominations were announced back in January, “La La Land” found Oscar Awards 2017 Live itself joining an exclusive club. In the nearly nine decades since the Oscars were first handed out, only twice had any film been nominated for as many as 14 Academy Awards -- 1950’s “All About Eve” and 1997’s “Titanic.” This year, the charmingly old-fashioned musical romance “La La Land” became the third.
The question now is whether Oscar Awards 2017 Live Stream director Damien Chazelle’s film can cash in on all those nominations. It’s not a foregone conclusion. A case in point: 2008’s “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” which earned 13 nominations but which won a measly three trophies, all in technical categories.
Don’t expect “La La Land” to suffer the same fate, though. Not only will it win the Oscar for best picture on Feb. 26, but it will take home nine trophies in all. (That’s just short of the record of 11 -- shared by 1959’s “Ben-Hur,” 2007’s “Titanic” and 2003’s “The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King” -- but it should be enough to get Chazelle singing and dancing.
